When Disney Cruise Line entered the cruise business in 1999, they made cruising a genuine "family" experience. Up until that point, most cruise lines focused mostly on adults, with very little consideration (in services or offerings) given to younger members of the family. When the Disney Wonder launched in August of 1999, it redefined the cruise industry and its impact over the last ten years has been evident.

Disney was the first cruise line, for example, to offer a majority of balcony staterooms - something that has now become commonplace on new ships. Disney's staterooms were also substantially larger than on most ships at that time - also a trend the industry has adopted. Disney Cruise Line was the first line to include a bathtub in most every stateroom (a necessity when traveling with young children). And, while we're on the subject of children, Disney built a ship with kids in mind - from Flounders Reef Nursery (for toddlers), to the Oceaneers Club (for kids 3-7), Oceaneers Lab (kids 8-12) and Aloft! - the 'teens only' hangout, a Disney cruise had the younger set fully covered. And the industry followed suit with newer ships on lines like Carnival and Royal Caribbean both trying to 'up the ante' when it comes to kid-specific areas. The Disney Cruise Line boasts a unique approach to Cruise Dining. The rotational dining system allows guests to enjoy each of the three themed restaurants on board each Disney cruise ship. Animator's Palate, Parrot Cay, and Lumiere's (Disney Magic) or Triton's (Disney Wonder). On the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy the restaurants include Animators Palate, Cabanas, Enchanted Garden, Royal Palace, Palo and Remy. One of the best parts of cruising is trying different cuisines. Don't be afraid to try something new! If you don't like it, your server can get you something else (or bring you more if you love it!).

When you get your Key To The World Card, you'll notice a series of letters. This is your dining assignment. For example, if you have APL, your rotation will be Animator's Palate, Parrot Cay and Lumiere's. On a longer cruise, you will visit the same restaurants again, but the theme and menu will be different. You will also find tickets with your assigned seating time, restaurant schedule and table number in your stateroom. That will follow you for the duration of your Disney cruise.

On your first night, you will be introduced to your Server and Assistant Server (they will follow you from restaurant to restaurant each evening). You will be amazed at how attentive the wait staff can be - don't be surprised if they learn all your names right away (and even what you prefer to drink and how you like your food prepared!).

Main seating on the Disney cruise ships is at 5:45 pm and Second seating is at 8:15 pm. On the Dream's Caribbean and Bahamian sailings, your dinner seating time determines which evening show you will have tickets for. If you have Main dining, you will have tickets to the 8:30 show. Second dining will have tickets to the 6:15 show.

Special summer sailings (including Alaskan and Mediterranean sailings) may have dinner at 6:00 and 8:30 pm. On the 7 night Disney cruise, you'll dine in each of the three themed restaurants at least once. On the 3 night Disney cruise you will have the opportunity to dine in each restaurant once, and on the 4 night Disney Cruise you'll repeat one restaurant. Adults 18 and over on all of the Disney cruises may make reservations for Palo, an adults-exclusive restaurant on Deck 10. Keep in mind that if you make a dinner reservation at Palo's while on board the 3 night cruise you will miss the opportunity to dine at one of the restaurants in the regular dining rotation.
